About Us

For the LOVE of LOCAL!

We're BIG believers in the common good.

Our mission is to provide the very best

experience for YOU while simultaneously promoting LOCAL small businesses in a safe and encouraging environment. Everyone is welcome at Spunky Monkey Alaska.

We have more than 90 vendors under our roof and we are always searching for new talent. Our space is large enough for our vendors to offer classes to the community, host parties, hold popups and more!

In addition to offering an amazing shopping experience, we also have a full coffee bar proudly serving Kaladi Brothers Coffee. We offer seating with free Wi-Fi. Bring your book club, coalition members, or just meet a friend! Our space is FREE of charge for all local nonprofits.

Our roots in the Valley run DEEP! We are third generation Alaskans who now have 5th generation grandchildren. We are graduates from Wasilla High School (GO Warriors!) and we truly love our (not so little anymore) town!

We are Veteran and locally owned and operated. Our dream is to leave a legacy for the community. A legacy of supporting others, helping one another and simple old-fashioned kindness.

We started small.

We started small. Very small.

In 2012 we were on vacation in Ocean Shores, WA and we found the cutest little gift shop. Inside that gift shop was an obviously carefully curated selection of locally made gifts. We purchased a wine bottle candle from that little shop and the rest is history. From that moment on we began working hard to create the perfect (or as close to it as possible) wine bottle candle line. We branched out to other recycled material pieces as well through our small hobby company called Palletopia. Just like the name implies, we were making pallet wood pieces before it was trendy. Pallets have amazing character and we were always on the hunt for cool pallets we could transform.

In 2013 our candle line really took off after we had our very first booth at the Alaska Chicks Vintage Home Market (now knowns as the Alaska Vintage Markets). We decided to call our little company Spunky Monkey, after our beloved fur baby, Gizmo. His nickname was Spunky Monkey. Gizzy is no longer with us but we were lucky to have him for 14 wonderful fun-filled years.

In December of 2022, after years of doing shows, the State Fair and having our items in numerous stores across Alaska, we decided to take the plunge and open our own store. We had so many connections in the vendor arena that we had a waiting list before we even opened the door. To this day, we still have a waiting list of more than 200 people. Alaska is FULL of talent. FULL of amazing small businesses and individuals that have mastered their craft. Alaska is also FULL of support for shopping local. Our tagline is For the Love of Local and we feel it to our core.

We have BIG plans. BIG dreams. We will keep growing, keep adding more vendors and providing a place for local artists and the community as long as our community keeps supporting local. We LOVE doing this.
